Get it all from a Homeschool Convention

2008 Homeschool convention dates are here !!!. This event is usually held in summer, or late spring, so check NOW for your state convention by clicking on your state below.

It is just a great event. You can find out more about homeschooling, look at different curriculum on displays, listens to talks, panels, workshop on different homeschooling subject.

It really helps you out if you're still not sure about curriculum, the 'how to' of homeschooling, joining a support group. Just meet with other homeschoolers in your area.

A couple of tips for attending a homeschool convention :

* If you have younger kids, leave them at home or if you have to take them with you, have somebody else to take care of them (your partner or grandparents). The convention is usually filled with lots of useful information so you may not be able to attend to a crying, exhausted toddler.

* If you have older kids, bring them along and maybe even let them choose a curriculum. This way you know what they like and they can't say "I don't like this curriculum" (they might say it anyway and you may have to change again in the end, but this might help lessen the problem)

* Some convention also have student display where homeschoolers can display their science project and such. Check this and see if your kids would be interested.

* Look at the convention website BEFORE the day of the convention and make plans. There are usually paralel sessions so choose which ones you're going to benefit the most from. Also there are lots of curriculum vendors so concentrate on those first before you do your browsing.

NOTE : Many homeschoolers are deeply Christian and this can be reflected in some convention. I'm not judging, but just want you to be prepared.
