Solid Liquid Preschool Theme

Solid liquid preschool theme introduces solid liquid concepts in a fun way. It is also very closely related to hot and cold, so you may want to check there for more. There's more to just water and ice.

Butter beater
What you need :

Heavy cream
A jar
2 Marbles (optional)

Put cream and marbles in the jar and shake it until cream turns into butter. Putting everything in the refrigerator until cold makes the process a little faster.

Oobleck (magic matter)
What you need :

Cornstarch
Water
Food coloring (optional)

Mix cornstarch and water, add a little color for fun. You'd have something liquid and solid at the same time. Pretty fun.

Crayon cookies
From More Mudpies to Magnets, by Sherwood, Williams and Rockwell.

Peel old crayons and put in muffin tin
Either put the same colors in a tin or mix colors
Heat the tins in a pan filled with water
As the crayons melt, talk to kids about melting, solid, liquids, hot and cold
Let the crayons cool down. Use it !!!

Note : My son especially liked the mixed colors, it was just so much fun watching the different crayons melt slowly and then the colors start to mix.
